ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/22 June) – Some P40 million worth of properties went up in smoke when a fire broke out in downtown Jolo, Sulu, a police official today said.
Sulu police director Senior Supt.
Antonio Freyra said the fire broke out around 9 p.m. Thursday on Gen. Arolas Street and razed to the ground a commercial complex comprising 320 stalls.
Textiles, clothing materials, shoes, as well as household utensils were among the products that were being sold at the burned commercial complex, Freyra said.
He said the fire started at one of the stalls along Gen. Arolas Street and spread towards Moralla Street.
The fire investigator has yet to ascertain the origin of the fire, he said.
The Jolo firefighters, who were only equipped with two fire trucks, managed to extinguish the fire around 1 a.
