KIDAPAWAN CITY(MindaNews/01 April) — Two employees of a bus company plying the Cotabato-Davao highway were injured, one in serious condition, when a still unidentified gunman shot them as they were getting off the bus during a stopover in Midsayap, North Cotabato at around 6 a.m. Saturday.
Inspector Elino Galilea, deputy chief of the Midsayap police, identified the victims as Rico Valdevieso, 52, and MacmodSulaik Dematangkay, 43, both ticket inspectors of the Peoples’ Transport Company.
Valdevieso was hit on his head and leg and is undergoing treatment at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center in Cotabato City, while Dematangkay suffered only minor injuries in his arm.
Galilea said the gunman’s target was Valdevieso. Dematangkay was just hit by a stray bullet, he added.
Initial investigations showed that as soon as Valdevieso got down from the bus, the gunman approached him and shot him twice. One of the bullets that hit Valdevieso also hit Dematangkay who was standing near him, the police said.
Galilea said that although Valdevieso was badly hurt, the victim was conscious.
In November last year, two bus inspectors from the same bus company were also badly hurt when shot at by still unidentified gunmen in Kabacan town, also in North Cotabato province. (Malu Cadelina-Manar/MindaNews)
