ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/21 December) – The first truck carrying relief goods for the victims of Typhoon Sendong had left Wednesday for Cagayan de Oro City, Pedro Rufo Soliven, Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. (ZCCCIFI) president said.
Soliven said the truck was loaded with 500 cases of bottled water with 24 bottles each, clothing, footwear and foodstuffs to be given to the flood victims in coordination with the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and the local government.
Residents of Cagayan de Oro are confronting severe lack of potable water since several parts of the city’s water distribution pipelines were destroyed by the floods.
Soliven said the relief goods were donated by “our partners and friends who want to remain anonymous.”
The ZCCCIFI said they are still receiving donations for the flood victims of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities.
“We are still receiving donations. It will take a while to build lives again but with your support and love, we will rebuild their families and communities,” Antonio Iturralde, the chamber’s mercy mission director, said.
Meanwhile, the City Council, in a regular session Tuesday, unanimously adopted the resolution of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) to extend P2 million cash assistance to the flood victims in the two cities.
The CDRRMC, in an emergency meeting Monday, passed a resolution recommending the allocation of P2 million from this city’s calamity funds to extend cash assistance to the flood victims.
Mayor Celso Lobregat said the two cities will receive P1 million each. (MindaNews)
