ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/23 December) – A casual employee, driven by his sympathy to the plight of the victims of Typhoon Sendong, decided to donate to them the sack of rice which he received as Christmas gift from the local government.
Joel Masaganda, 48, a driver at the City Health Office personally turned over Wednesday afternoon to Mayor Celso Lobregat his donation for inclusion in the second batch of relief goods to be delivered to the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU).
ADZU is the consolidation point of all donated goods for the distribution to the victims of flashfloods spawned by tropical storm Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities.
Masaganda and other casual as well as job order employees received a sack of rice and P2,000 each as Christmas gift from the city government.
As casual and job order employees, they were not entitled to the P25,000 cash bonus given by the local government this year to its more than 2,000 personnel.
However, despite his humble Christmas incentive, Masaganda chose to donate the rice to the victims of the flashflood spawned by tropical storm Sendong.
“Just give what you can that comes from the heart,” he said.
Lobregat lauded the humanitarian gesture of Masaganda stressing that the latter’s example is worth emulating. (MindaNews)
