BEIJING (MindaNews/20 Dec) – Beijing said they are willing to provide humanitarian aid assistance to the disaster-hit areas in Northern Mindanao and parts of the Western Visayas, who are reeling from the devastation brought by tropical storm Washi (Sendong) over the weekend.
Liu Weimin, China’s foreign minister spokesman, “expressed sympathy and condolences for those who have been affected by the storm” during his daily press conference on Monday.
According to him, the Chinese embassy in Manila has already allocated an initial of $10,000 or P440,000 in relief funds.
As of Tuesday, the National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDDRMC) has reported that the death toll has already reached 957, the biggest casualties in natural disaster-related cause in recent years. (Darwin Wally T. Wee / MindaNews)
