ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/26 July) – City Mayor Celso Lobregat has refused to rate President Aquino’s first year in office saying the period is just for the setting of direction the government would take in line with its “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap” commitment during the campaign.
“I think it is the thrust of this government to fight corruption that is why you have now so many investigations and revelations against the past administration, which also strengthens the divide between the present and past administrations,” he said.
The mayor also said the Aquino government was operating on a budget that was approved by his predecessor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Lobregat said he is glad that Aquino had ordered a moratorium on the transfer of regional offices to Pagadian City.
“Zamboanga City can now hope, because during the previous administration it was hopeless in the sense that at that point in time most of the regional offices had already transferred to Pagadian City. It was some sort of a done deal.
At least, during the first year of President Aquino there is hope,” he said.
The transfer of the regional offices can be traced back to the President’s mother, the late President Corazon C.
Aquino.
Lobregat also said he is hoping for the construction of a bypass road that would connect the east and west coasts and initial works for the airport transfer under the current administration. (MindaNews)
