KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/04 September) — Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao will pay his taxes next year in Sarangani province, according to Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 12 regional director Olivia Sudaria.
Sudaria told media during a tax forum here that Pacquiao, the international boxing champion, has assured her and internal revenue officers in Region 12 that he would file his income tax in Alabel, the town capital of Sarangani, in 2011.
Pacquiao used to pay his taxes in Pasig City in Metro Manila, where he started his boxing career and where he got his tax identification number (TIN), according to Psalmer Bernalte of the City Information Office.
Sudaria said Pacquiao’s tax payment will surely help improve the tax collection of Sarangani, whose economy depends primarily on agriculture.
“Rep. Pacquiao has vowed to help his poor constituents in Sarangani. Well, he can better serve his people by paying his taxes in Alabel town,” said Sudaria.
From June 2008 to June 2009, Pacquiao earned some $40 million or P1.9 billion from his winnings, making him one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, based on the Forbes Magazine’s list.
He is sixth on the list headed by golfer Tiger Woods. (Malu Cadelina-Manar/MindaNews)
