The one-day event will start 8 a.m. and will feature competitions in open elite road race, team and individual classification, and mountain bike for masters (35 years old and up) and beginners (18-23 years old) categories.
Samahang Siklista Kooperatiba ng Dabaw (SSikad) chair Salvador Paholio Jr. said it would be a four-lap contest for the open elite road race and a two-lap competition for the mountain bike.
"The road race participants will have to conquer four laps in the race which has 15.9 kilometers per lap and two laps for the mountain bike race," said Paholio during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn on Thursday.
Two teams have already signed up to take part in the road race team classification, one of which is led by 1991 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) gold medalist Dominic Carpio.
The Carpio-led University of Mindanao Broadcasting Network team will also parade the services of Marvin Aleonar, Glen Ibanez and Melchor Labayo Jr.
Former national team member Hilario Ladra will be at the forefront of the other team, which might carry the name of Vice Mayor Sara Duterte.
Joining the veteran conqueror Ladra are Marcial Catangue, Glen Yap and Carlofer Salonga. Cash prizes are up for grabs in the tournament hosted by newly-elected Catalunan Grande Barangay Capt. Paulo Duterte, the mayor’s son.
The race is part of the several sporting events lined up for the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rody Duterte sports extravaganza organized by Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office under Christopher "Bong" Go. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)
