More than 100 woodpushers across Davao City are expected to dispute the various division titles in the tournament, which is one of the several events lined up to highlight the Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Duterte sports extravaganza. The two-day chess fest will feature competition in kiddies (14 and below), juniors (20 and below) and open category. Tournament director National Arbiter Ronnie Tabudlong said kiddies and junior divisions will be played on Dec. 15 while the open category on the following day. "The FIDE Laws of Chess, particularly the Laws on Rapid Chess, shall govern the tournament," said Tabudlong of the tournament format that gives the players 30 minutes each to finish the game. Tabudlong pointed out that registration is free on a "first come first serve basis." Deadline of registration will be on Dec. 14. Cash prizes are up for grabs in the event organized by City Sports Development Division (SDD-CMO) under Christopher "Bong" Go. The open category champion will bring home P5,000 while the next two finishers will get P2,500 and P2, 000 respectively. Junior and Kiddies divisions champions will receive P2,000 and P1,000 while the next three finishers will also get cash prizes. Special awards will be given to best female performer and youngest participant.
