The tournament, which is part of the “Guvs for Gold” amateur boxing program of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP), will feature boxers aged 17 to 25 in 8 different weight categories.

The categories include paperweight-42 kgs, pinweight-45 kgs, light flyweight-48 kgs, flyweight-51 kgs, bantamweight 54 kgs, featherweight 57 kgs, lightweight-60 kgs, and welterweight 69 kgs.

Governor Manny Piñol, project director of the GNABC-Guvs for Gold, is keen on producing the 1st-ever Olympic gold medalist of the country.

“We have a host of Olympic boxing gold medal potentials in the provinces just waiting to be discovered and honed, and this is what the GNABC-Guv’s for Gold is doing.”

The LPP has hired the services of Cuban boxing coach and trainer Honorato Espinosa to assist in the program, developing a boxing trainers’ manual and conducting the trainers’ training in the different provinces. (Williamor A. Magbanua/MindaNews)
