Journalist John Nery, a native of Cagayan de Oro City, receives a trophy from Suzanne Puanani Vares-Lum, president of the Hawaii-based East West Center, as one of the seven “Journalists of Courage and Impact” honored during the EWC’s International Media Conference at the Philippine International Convention Center on Monday (24 June 2024). Nery is columnist and editorial consultant of Rappler. The honorees from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States were cited for having “ displayed exceptional commitment to quality reporting and freedom of the press, often under harrowing circumstances.
