MATALAM, North Cotabato (MindaNews / 2 December) – Months of speculating over the breakup between long-time reel and real lovers Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla finally ended when the couple came out to confirm the sad news.
The sad news was a big blow to the trusting fans who had put so much credence on the Kathniel love team as one of the solid and strongest love teams in the local movie industry.
To prove that the relationship between the two matinee idols was not only for the reel but was so real, Kathryn Bernardo said of her relationship with Daniel Padilla whom she fondly calls Deej: “What Deej and I had was real. It was never for show. We were together not (only) because of the cameras and the fans, nor for the money that (usually) comes with a successful love team. We were genuinely in love. We grew up together, dreamed together, and saw many of those dreams become a reality.”
Daniel Padilla said of the breakup as “mahirap pero kailangan” (difficult but necessary). As to why it was necessary, no further explanation was given. In fact, Kathryn for her part made it a point that she will not be entertaining questions about the breakup.
It has become not uncommon that when movie stars break up, it is usually blamed on a third party. In this case, nothing of that sort was mentioned, leaving many fans speculating on the real reasons behind the breakup.
The Kathniel breakup shocked many, if not all, of the fans, and sent shock waves in the movie world where most of their peers have touted this love team as something to watch.
“We’ve been drifting apart for a while now, and we ultimately had to accept (the reality) that we can’t go back to where we used to be,” admitted Kathryn.
The actress also asked the fans not to take sides now that she and Daniel had broken up. “Kathniels, we know you are hurting, and trust me, this also hurts us more than you can imagine. The last thing we want is for this family to break up with everyone taking sides. Please don’t. Deej and I will continue to support each other as we try to heal and move forward. We hope you can join us in this healing process,” she continued.
Well, matinee idols and love teams, either for reel or real, will continue to influence the fans as they savor the “kilig” factor that always goes with it. The young fans always take celebrity breakups as big deals and they always say “what a waste” to end this way too soon.
