CRUCIBLE: Song of Bud Dajo

QUEZON CITY (MindaNews/04 Oct) – Below are few extracts in both Bahasa Sug and English on what seems to be an anonymous Tausug-American War Documentary of the legendary “Bud Dajo Massacre.” Due to loud sound effects, the wordings of “kissa” or “song” of Bud Dajo are hardly audible.  It is possible that some words in the extracts do not fully reflect the original. But attempt is done to make the extracts very close to the original with their contextual English translation. We’d like to extend our thanks to the producer of said Documentary. It is hoped that this small effort in transforming into written text the consciousness of Bud Dajo is appreciated.

Kissa sin Bud Dajo

Duun man magpatimbul sila
Ha dunya mag-awla
Hangkan magsabil sila
Dih hitugut in sayrulla

Ha pag sayrullah dih lumamud
Sahirun nabantug
Nag-isun nagtayakkup
Piyabud naghakut

Dih mapulah-pulah
In buhawih dakulah
In hulah dih magridah
Nag-anduhud in hulah

Sah walah nagsurender
Mabayah pa sila magsabil

Song of Bud Dajo

It was there when they took notice
The world would not suffice
The reason they sought martyrdom
A paper to trample their freedom

The cedula they refused
Sahirun was famous
They consulted and united
To the mountain they brought

It was exceedingly grotesque
A tornado that great
Nature wouldn’t submit
The country in thunder

But, they never surrendered
They’d rather be martyred
