MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/19 June) – – Four of Bukidnon’s 20 towns were among the 12 local government units in Northern Mindanao that the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) included in the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF), an incentive mechanism for LGUs which passed its “Seal of Good Housekeeping” evaluation on key governance areas.
Don Carlos, Impasug-ong, Manolo Fortich, and Quezon along with eight other towns in the region passed the second-round assessment last year in the areas of planning, fiscal management, transparency and accountability, and valuing performance management, according to the DILG-10 announcement quoting Rene K. Burdeos, DILG-10 regional director.
The other LGUs are Ozamis City in Misamis Occidental, El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental, and the towns of Mambajao in Camiguin, Jimenez in Misamis Occidental, Kapatagan and Tubod in Lanao del Norte, and Opol and Balingasag in Misamis Oriental.
Burdeos cited that the 12 LGUs “complied with the full disclosure policy and have no adverse reports from the Commission on Audit, and have been confirmed with the Seal of Good Housekeeping.”
Each town will receive a P1-million and each city P3 million in subsidy from PCF. The fund may be used for development projects in line with the national government’s program to attain the Millennium Development Goals or other targets such as in tourism and economic development, disaster risk reduction and management, and solid waste management.
The projects, the DILG said, may include school buildings, rural health units, water and sanitary system, infrastructure, reforestation, and postharvest facilities. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)
