DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/16 January) — Davao City’s Liga ng mga Barangay chief Paolo Duterte and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) president Jashera Gonzales were elected Vice President for Mindanao in their respective national federations.
Duterte, barangay chair of Catalunan Grande, won unopposed in Friday’s national election of the Liga ng mga Barangay while Gonzales took the post during the Pambansang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan election on January 10 in Manila.
Duterte, son of Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and brother of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, and Gonzales vowed to work hard to advance the interest of the island as they commited to push for genuine programs that would benefit the Mindanawons.
“I firmly believe that the youth leaders in Mindanao can unite and work hand in hand regardless of race and religion to promote peace and harmony in their respective places,” Gonzales said.
Gonzales’ election was lauded by fellow members of the City Council during the regular session on Tuesday.
Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, City Council presiding chair, declared a one minute recess and approached Gonzales to congratulate her.
