MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/28 August) — Bukidnon Gov. Alex Calingasan has appointed Damulog mayor Romeo Tiongco as an “investment reviewer” with a special task of going over project proposals submitted by investors to the province.
As explained by his memorandum on August 5, Tioncgo’s appointment was due to his expertise and experiences in the review of project proposals.
The assignment, Calingasan said, carries with it the right to go over the needed records and files, requests for assistance from technical persons in the province and others that may be needed to carry out the assignment.
But Mayor Tiongco told MindaNews via SMS that the governor’s move was initially blocked by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
He said the function remains with the Provincial Planning and Development Office. But he is a member of the committee holding the task.
He could not say if the review of proposals from investors is a growing concern of the Calingasan administration. But Tiongco said the governor noted that he was able to block the entry of multinational companies in Damulog.
According to the minutes of the August 18 regular session, after a lengthy discussion, board member Nemesio Beltran Jr. moved that it be referred to the Committee on Laws and the Committee on Rules and Privileges “for further study.”
Board member Jay Albarece, a lawyer like Beltran, said the designation was approved on August 25. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)
