KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/8 Sept) — Police operatives in Cotabato City arrested on Tuesday a kidnapper who was also among the inmates who escaped from the North Cotabato Provincial Jail more than three years ago.
Senior Supt. Wilfredo Dangane, Cotabato City police director, identified the suspect as Faisal Mamalancas Salik, believed to be one of the brains in the kidnapping of Nelson Tay, owner of a foam store in Cotabato City, on August 16. Tay, according to reports, was released after his family paid the kidnappers considerable sums of money.
Salik, according to reports, was arrested after a week-long surveillance when operatives were tipped of his presence in the area.
Dangane led the arrest of Salik at the Simuay Bridge in Sultan Kudarat town, Maguindanao.
Salik and two companions were riding a motorcycle when stopped by Dangane and his men.
The fugitive was among the 48 inmates who escaped from prison in February 2007, along with two detained foreign-trained bombers identified as Borham Mundos and Alih Sultan, reports said. (Malu Cadeliña Manar / MindaNews)
