Military drops leaflets in Maguindanao towns urging terrorists to surrender

The military has dropped thousands of leaflets in four towns of Maguindanao del Sur on Monday urging the last remaining members of extremist terror groups to surrender peacefully to authorities.

Residents of the towns of Shariff Aguak, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Mamasapano and Shariff Saydona Mustapha were surprised to see the Philippine Air Force helicopter dropping the leaflets in several sorties.

Brig. Gen. Edgar Catu, commander of the Army’s 601st Infantry Brigade, said the leaflets urged members of the Dawlah Islamiya and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters to lay down their firearms and coordinate with the military and police for their surrender.

The four towns are known strongholds bases of the two terror groups where they launched operations against the military.

World Vision, a global humanitarian organization, cited its collaboration among its partners for the success in improving the lives of children, their families and communities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Elizabeth Delgado, World Vision Philippines Mindanao field office operations manager, said their critical collaboration with local government organizations and national government agencies allowed their humanitarian work unhampered for more than a decade.

“We work hand-in-hand with the government and various LGUs wherever we operate. The local government is our primary partner, along with all sectors related to our advocacies,” Delgado said during a recent media forum in Cotabato City.

She said their organization are also helping the Cotabato City government in solid waste management.
