Spike in dengue, measles-rubella cases recorded in NorMin
Health officials in Northern Mindanao said they have recorded an uptick in dengue and measles rubella cases from January to June this year.
Jasper Kent Ola, in charge of the DOH 10 Research, Epidemiology, Surveillance and Disaster Response Unit said they recorded 8,485 dengue cases from January 1 to June 22, significantly higher than the 6, 267 cases during the same period last year.
Ola said they also recorded 244 measles-rubella cases from January 1 to June 22 this year compared to 101 cases during the same period last year.
He said the province of Bukidnon has the highest number of recorded dengue cases at 3,313 cases followed by Misamis Oriental with 1,557 cases. (Froilan Gallardo/MindaNews)
454 people nabbed for illegal gambling in Caraga
Police authorities arrested 454 gamblers and seized P213,789 in bet money in their intensified campaign against illegal gambling in the Caraga region.
PNP Caraga regional director BGen Allan Nazarro said the police launched 238 operations against illegal gambling from January to July this year.

Smuggled cigarettes seized, 2 child laborers rescued in Sulu
Authorities seized P17 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and rescued two child laborers in Sulu province Thursday.
BGen Prexy Tanggawohn, police regional director of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao said police conducted a raid in Sitio Laum Niyog, Kajatian village in Indanan, Sulu where they found 210 cases of smuggled cigarettes abandoned by its owners.
