Off-season mating behavior of Olive Ridley pair monitored in Sarangani
An off-season mating behavior of a pair of Olive Ridley turtles has stirred the interests of officials and environmentalists monitoring the protected Sarangani Bay.
Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape Superintendent Cirilo Lagnason Jr., said their team saw a pair of Olive Ridley Turtles mating last March 21.
Lagnason said their office was excited at the sighting since mating in this period is usually rare.
“It is worth to note that sea turtles typically mate before their nesting season from March to May in Sarangani Bay,” Lagnason said.
He said the shores of Sarangani Bay are favorite nesting places for turtles to lay their eggs.
