While the difference is only 2 per cent from 64% in the last quarter of 2008 survey to 66% in the first quarter of 2009 survey of Filipinos who want Ms Arroyo out by noon of June 30, 2010 when her term of office officially ends, Mindanao posted the highest percentage increase in opposition at 12% — from 54% in the last quarter 2008 survey to 66% in the first quarter of 2009.
The SWS in a press statement said the survey question was: “Kayo po ba ay sang-ayon o hindi sang-ayon sa Charter Change na papayagan si Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo na manatili bilang PINUNONG OPISYAL NG PILIPINAS nang lampas sa Hunyo 30, 2010?” (Are you for or against a Charter Change that will allow President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to still be THE CHIEF OFFICIAL OF THE PHILIPPINES after June 30, 2010?).
The SWS said opposition fell from 78% to 72% in Metro Manila, and from 70% to 62% in the Visayas but found that “66% in Mindanao are opposed (consisting of % strongly disagree and % somewhat disagree), or up by 12 points from 54% in October 2008.”
Opposition also rose in the Balance of Luzon, from 62% to 66%, the SWS said.
“Opposition remained high in all classes: it went from 67% to 69% in class ABC, from 63% to 67% in class D or the masa; and from 66% to 64% in class E,” the SWS report said. (MindaNews)
