Supt. Benhur Mongao, SK provincial police director said the identity of the slain councilor and the wounded bodyguard of a Barangay Chairman were not yet known.
“But based on the data I gathered from the field, the slain villager was a councilor in Barangay Karon in Sultan Kudarat,” said Mongao in an interview over DXND here.
The wounded barangay chair was identified as Bobby Karon of Barangay Karon in Lebak town.
Karon is the younger brother of Commander Dante of the Moro National Liberation Front
(MNLF) whose operations include Sultan Kudarat province, Mongao said.
The MILF broke away from the then main MNLF organization in 1981 over political and ideological differences.
The victims were riding on a four-wheel vehicle on their way to Barangay Karon to attend a ‘kanduli’ or a thanksgiving when ambushed by a group of armed men allegedly led by a certain Commander Jing of the MILF.
Mongao hinted that the ambush was due to a clan feud which stemmed from land conflict.
