Senior Fire Official (SFO2) Danilo Quillab said the fire, which started at 10 a.m. Monday lasted for four hours, burning at least five blocks in downtown Kalilangan.
But no one was killed or hurt in the fire, Quilab told MindaNews via telephone Monday afternoon.
Quilab still could not tell the cause of fire as their investigation is still ongoing but he said fire started at the second floor of the Socor residence in Purok 13, Brgy. Central Poblocation. The Socors, a merchant family from Marawi, runs a barber shop and a store at the ground floor of the house, at least 150 meters away from the Kalilangan fire station.
Initial estimate of damage of the fire was placed at P1.5 million, as of 4p.m., Quilab said.
Quilab said the number of families or at least 245 individuals affected. is based on Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office figures, as of 4p.m.
He said the numbers might still go up since the MSWDO is yet to finish its investigation. He said it might reach at least 60 families.
A total of eight fire trucks responded to the call, including that of neighboring town Wao and a banana firm's water tank. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)
