Rigoberto Sanchez, NPA spokesman in Southern Mindanao, said in a press statement issued today that they conducted thorough investigations on Wilson Latimbang, councilor of Barangay Noa in Magpet, North Cotabato; Deonito Carmona, chair of Barangay Coronan in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur; and Felimon Eyana, former chair of Barangay San Vicente in Montevista, Compostela Valley before the execution order was issued.
The NPA said that the three were active in the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) in their respective areas. BIN, the rebel group claimed, has become the Army’s potent tool in its “counter-revolutionary” campaign in the countryside.
Latimbang and Carmona were reportedly under the BIN of the 39th Infantry Battalion based in Makilala, North Cotabato, while Eyana was under the BIN of 28IB Moncayo, Compostela Valley.
Sanchez said the three village officials were warned several times that they might get killed if they continue to help government forces in crushing the rebel movement.
The bodies of the three victims bore gunshot wounds, mostly in the upper parts of the body. (MindaNews)
