Kidapawan City police investigators identified the victim as Wilfredo Puno, 53, of Barangay Doruluman, Arakan town in North Cotabato.
Puno is an employee of the Support to Agrarian Reform Communities in Central Mindanao (STARCM), a special project of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in South and Central Mindanao.
The victim died on the spot due to several bullet wounds in the head.
Chief Insp. Leo Ajero, Kidapawan City police director, said the victim was about to enter the gate of his rented apartment at the Old PC Barracks when approached and shot by the suspects using a caliber .45 pistol.
Ajero said Puno was also attacked by still unidentified perpetrators in Arakan in 2002, but it was his wife who died in that incident. Reports said land dispute could be the motive behind the 2002 ambush.
But Ajero said the incident last night could be work related although they still do not know the suspects’ identities. (Williamor A. Magbanua / MindaNews)
